• Sakrete 5000 Plus Concrete Mix - higher early strength (5,000 psi at 28 days), specified when we’re setting posts within 18 inches of a driveway or walkway where vehicle loading is a factor. Confirm the gravel base is clean 3/4-inch drain rock, not recycled concrete fines that lock up moisture.

Where DIY goes wrong is in the pour and cure. Fast-setting concrete generates significant heat; handling it without gloves causes chemical burns, and inhaling the dust damages lungs. More critically, the post must be held plumb during the entire set window - 20 minutes for Fast-Setting, longer in cold weather - and most homeowners underestimate how much a wet post wants to drift.
