Signs Your PGT Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

• Doors hang crooked or won’t close flush. This usually traces to hinge cup loosening in the particleboard stile, a known issue in Classic Series kitchens installed before 2016 when PGT used a lower-density core. The screw holes wallow out, and no amount of hinge adjustment compensates.
• Drawers bind or drop on one side. The Tandem runner’s plastic rear socket cracks under load, especially in base cabinets holding cast-iron cookware. In Irvine’s inland neighborhoods like Northwood and Woodbridge, we’ve seen this accelerate when garage-stored pots get transferred to kitchen drawers without checking the weight rating.
• Soft-close feature stops working. The Blumotion piston leaks hydraulic fluid over 7-10 years of use. It is not field-serviceable; the entire hinge or runner cartridge needs replacement.

DIY or Call Us?

There is safe owner territory and there is territory where a mistake costs more than the call.

You can check: whether a hinge screw is simply loose (tighten with a #2 Pozidriv, not a Phillips, which will cam out and strip the head), whether the drawer is overloading the runner (remove weight and test), and whether the issue is debris in the track (vacuum, then test). You can also photograph the model sticker and email it to us - we will identify the part before we drive out.

Do not attempt: cutting new hinge cup holes with a handheld drill (the 35mm Forstner bit requires a jig and depth stop, or the stile blows out), adjusting ProVue frameless hinge mounting plates without understanding the 3-axis adjustment sequence, or replacing a sink-base cabinet floor after water damage - the toe-kick, finished end panel, and adjacent base unit all need sequencing, and one wrong cut exposes unfinished edges.
