We source OEM Cambria direct from the Minnesota plant. Aftermarket quartz exists, but we don’t spec it for Cambria replacements - the resin ratio and polish depth differ enough that the seam shows.

Signs Your Cambria Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

• Seam separation at the sink or cooktop. Cambria is non-porous and dimensionally stable, so seam movement almost always means the cabinet deck has shifted or the original adhesive failed. In Irvine’s newer construction, we see this when particleboard sub-decks sag under the weight of a 3 cm slab.
• Spider cracking from a corner or cutout. Quartz doesn’t crack on its own; the crack follows stress from inadequate support beneath a cooktop or an unsupported overhang. The slab is fine, but the install underneath it wasn’t.
• Clouding or dull spots that don’t clean off. This is usually surface etching from harsh cleaners - Cambria resists acids better than marble, but not hydrofluoric or prolonged bleach exposure. The finish layer is damaged, not the body, but refinishing quartz in place isn’t practical.
• Water pooling at the backsplash seam. The silicone seal has failed, or the slab was set with a gap too wide for silicone to bridge. Left alone, it reaches the drywall behind.
• Chipping at the edge of an overhang. Impact damage, or a 2 cm slab over-spanned without corbels. Cambria’s warranty covers manufacturing defects, not impact or poor support design.

What drives the range: slab color (designer lines cost more per square foot), linear footage of edging (ogee and waterfall edges add fabrication hours), and whether we’re removing a glued-down existing top or working in new construction. Our quote includes template, fabrication, delivery, install, and sink cutout polish. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that number is written before anyone starts. Changes - say, you add a waterfall leg after template - get a signed change order, same as every Rowan project since 2007.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s no dangerous tension or electrical hazard in countertop replacement, but the weight is the problem. A 3 cm Cambria slab runs 20-25 pounds per square foot; a standard L-shaped kitchen top is 400-600 pounds of brittle material that cracks if it torques. Two strong people can move a vanity top. A full kitchen needs suction cups, A-frames, and experience with seam placement.

What you can check yourself: whether the chip is in the finish or through the body (a fingernail catches the latter), and whether your cabinets are level within 1/8 inch over 10 feet - anything more, and the new slab stresses the same way. What goes wrong in DIY: templating errors that show at the wall, unsupported overhangs that crack in six months, and sink cutouts that blow out because the relief hole was drilled too small.
